1. National PTA Emerging Minority Leaders Conference 2008 - Opportunity for two Representatives to attend on behalf of NYS PTA (see below)

Destination: Leadership III: Leadership Skills for the 21st Century

Building on a foundation of knowledge.

The Emerging Minority Leaders Conference, now in its third year, is designed to respond to the growing diversity in our public schools and communities, and to help PTA serve all children and families. Participants in this year's conference will strengthen their leadership skills and engage in significant networking opportunities.

Please assist us in identifying emerging minority leaders: Pass this information on to potential conference attendees. If you are an ethnic minority, keep checking the National PTA website (www.pta.org) to learn more about the scheduled activities for the 2008 conference. Both new and returning attendees will benefit from this opportunity to build on a foundation of knowledge. Through the Emerging Minority Leaders Conference, we can develop PTA's leadership and move closer to fulfilling our vision of making every child's potential a reality.

2008 Emerging Minority Leaders Conference - October 31-November 2, in Oak Brook, Illinois

The Emerging Minority Leaders Conference was created to recognize and reinforce the importance of ethnic minority leaders in PTA's future growth.

This conference is for you if you:

·                       Are an ethnic minority,

·                       Are interested in growing as a PTA leader, and

·                       Want an opportunity to share experiences with fellow emerging minority PTA leaders.

Registration is open to all local, council, district, region, and state leaders. The registration fee of $200 covers conference materials as well as meals on Friday evening, Saturday morning and afternoon, and Sunday morning.

The PTA national office will reimburse each state for the cost of registration, airfare, hotel, and per diem for two members to attend the conference. One of these leaders can be a returning attendee, while the other should be a new emerging leader; both can be new emerging leaders. States are encouraged to select attendees from all levels of the organization.

For more information on this conference, contact the PTA Community Connections Department, PTA national office, at (800) 307-4PTA (4782) or nemlc@pta.org. If you wish to be one of the two NYS PTA representatives, please send an email to pta.office@nyspta.org with your request and contact information.
